Lake Birrabeen Fraser Island is one of two clear lakes on Fraser Island. The other clear lake is Lake McKenzie.

Lake Birrabeen Fraser Island and Lake McKenzie have very similar features. The only difference is that Lake Birrabeen is not as populated as Lake McKenzie.

Lake Birrabeen Fraser Island is a perched lake with pure white silica sand on the shore lines and the water is a pictureque blue. Lake McKenzie and Lake Birrabeen are the two most popular and photographed lakes on Fraser Island. If you have any photographic tendencies, then you will love Lake Birrabeen.

Lake Birrabeen Fraser Island is a perched lake which means it sits above sea level on a sealed base formed over time from sand and organic matter. Lake Birrabeen is a fresh water lake.

There are toilet facilities available at Lake Birrabeen. These toilets have been upgraded and available for use from April 2011.

Vehicles Permits and Camping Permits

You will need to purchase vehicle permits and camping tags before you drive on Fraser Island. These are available from the Department of Environment and Resource Management. The camping tag must be attached to the campsite and visible at all times. You can buy these permits in person from Level 3, 400 George Street, Brisbane 4000, by phone 1300 130 372 or via the internet - www.derm.qld.gov.au
